Study of the activities of Chinese herb VISCUM ALNIFORMOSANAE. Part II:The components of conditioned medium produced by VISCUM ALNIFORMOSANAE-stimulated mononuclear cells

Abstract: The human promyelocytic cell line HL-60 can be induced to monocytoidterminal differentiation by several conditioned media produced bylectin-stimulated mononuclear cells. We reported previously that a572-conditioned medium (CM) secreted from viscumalniformosanae-stimulated mononuclear cells also had the capacity ofinducing HL-60 leukemic cells into mature monocytes. In the presentstudy, we showed that 572-CM did not contain IFN-r, TNF, IL-1 and IL-2as determined by using ELISA tests. This CM was unable to inducegranulocyte-macrophage colony formation. Sodium dodecyl sulphatepolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) was used to detect thecomponents of this CM. After running the acrylamide gels, a wide bandprotein, in the 65-80 kd range was obtained and it was different fromthose of other mitogens. Author.
