Abstract: 1860 Hoppe required an preobservation of the personal symptoms before proving any remedy to avoid an medley of symptoms. Hering answered, that every symptom is a product of both, the remedy and the prover. He pointed out that a remedy can only express something, belonging to the prover. He demonstrated this by the resemblance of symptoms gained by the same prover with different remedies. Another example is shown by the symptoms publicated by Hahnemann.
