Neue Trends in der Strahlentherapie aus der Sicht biologischer Therapiemaßnahmen

Abstract: X-ray therapy is very important in the tumour therapy as a regional form of treatment. New radiobiological and clinical findings have lead to improved results achieved in treatment. Therefore the X-ray therapy has become more effective and safer. Despite obvious progress in X-ray therapy, the patients treated with X-ray therapy are still sceptical. The belief of patients, that they can be cured by X-ray therapy depends on the prognosis as well as on the development of the disease. An inquiry among 113 patients who have been treated with X-ray therapy showed, that 46,9 % of them are additionally treated with a biological therapy. The proportion of relapse patients in this patient group has been larger than the proportion of patients treated with a primary therapy. An additional biological treatment is more often chosen by older patients. The frequency of additional measures of treatment has also been dependent on the tumour diagnosis. The largest proportion was discovered in the case of patients with a carcinoma of the breast, the lowest in the case of patients with a lymphoma. The data which have been gathered, indicate an existing need for additional therapies and emphasize the necessity of further scientific efforts in this field.
