Abstract: Homoeopathy has taught us that extremely low amounts of chemicals can have an important effect on the organism. The increased excretion of mercury for example, can be determined in the urine of people with amalgam fillings by Hg high-potencies.lf the amount of poisons which can cause acute symptoms is far below the threshold dose, we can observe damages of the organs after a long influence period, which look much different than acute poisoning.Environmental poisons are characterized as follows:1. The poisoned person normally does not now the kind of the poisons.2. The concentration of the poisons is extremely low.3. Normally there is a large number of poisons.4. Only previously damaged persons notice the symptoms of poisoning.5 . Persons involved can not escape the poisoning in time.6. By avoiding co-factors, the clinical picture can be improved.7 . Unknown interactions from the different sources make it impossible, to evaluate individual factors.A characteristic example is amalgam:dental amalgam has a cytotoxic effect (Kawahara), mercury inhibits the selenoenzyme glutathione peroxidase (Wada) and even in traces it excites the peroxide metabolism (Stacey), which leads to a fast destruction of the cell membranes. Selenium forms together with heavy metals compounds which are hardly soluble. The trace element selenium detoxicates at the same time heavy metals like cadmium, arsenium, lead and mercury. So the relationship between an increasing load of the environment with heavy metals and increasing incidence of cancer becomes obvious.Poisons like nitrates, dioxine, pesticides, solvents and preservatives which are present ubiquitously, finally cause cancer via an impairment of the immunological system.Therefore, the main goal of our efforts has to be, to drastically reduce these poisons in the environment on the one hand and to re-establish the sensitive internal ecological balance by heavy metal protectors like selenium and zinc as well as antioxidants (ß-carotin, vitamin E) on the other hand.
