Abstract: Almost all modern preparations against asthma have been developed from drugs used by empiric therapeutics and natural medicine. Still, the findings are not exhausted. Even in the future it can be expected that further natural substances can be found for the treatment of asthma. For example, in the onion (allium cepa) many different compounds have been identified which show numerous pharmacological effects. Promising plants originate in Asia and South America, where their anti-inflammatory effects have been known for centuries. At the moment, animal experiments are carried through to find out which substances in these plants cause these effects.
