Abstract: In 646 patients with different initial levels, the resting blood pressure measurings every morning over four weeks of complex spa treatment were analysed. The courses of the systolic and diastolic blood pressures exhibited a characteristic dependence an the initial values: In all groups during the first days of cure a decrease of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure was found, however, in the groups with high initial values the blood pressure was additionally lowered in the following weeks, whereas low values increased. The cross-over-point of the correlation of the initial values with the linear trends of the following courses coincided with the statistical and functional normal values of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Such a normalization was not detectable in the initial changes. The last-named changes are defined as homogenization effect, caused by a standardization of the environmental conditions and the relaxation. However, the convergence aiming to the normal values is named adaptive normalization, caused by functional adaptation. The cross- over-points of the normalization effect of the systolic blood pressure exhibited a significance age dependency (increase of about 4 mmHg per 10 years of life), however, the cross-over-point of the diastolic blood pressure did not show an unambiguous age dependency.
