Abstract: Pentachlorophenols (PCP) are substances that do not occur in the natural surroundings. They are metabolized in the liver through the process of glycosylation. With high doses acute poisoning occurs. Long-term exposition causes problems such as neurotoxic syndromes, chronic infections and mycoses, allergies and diseases of the thyroid gland. The diagnosis of chlorohydrocarbon-syndrome is still in its initial stage. The immunological system has proven a sensitive indicator of damages. A study with 200 patients who were subjected to pesticides for long periods of time could show a number of immunological abnormalities including severe immunological defects.
