Abstract: Typical trends of medicine in the middle of the 19th century can be seen in the publications of the homoeopathic physician Carl Gerster, who was caring about a critical attitude to his medical acting. His urge for theoretical foundation of practical experiences led him beyond the closer borders of Homoeopathy. His way was guided by two directions, which may appear as contrasts: the new pathology and physiology on the one hand and a systematical pursued msmerism on the other.
