Abstract: A method fro measuring skin conductance by means of an experimental model of the grid contact-electrode dermograph RED-01 has been developed. This apparatus allows the non-invasive visualization of the conductance relief of a 20x40 mm skin or mucous membrane area (spatial resolution: 0.4 mm; scanning period: 30 seconds; AC approx. 0,1-1mkA). It also permits individual points within the scanned area to be electrically influenced. Mechanical adjustment of the detector electrode on the skin is also avoided by using the RED-01. Laboratory and clinical studies of predominantly neurological cases were undertaken. Two-dimensional pictures of conductance on the ear lobe, the paravertebral region and the back of the hand (LI 4) demonstrate the reactions of sick and healthy persons. A procedure for the difference diagnosis of neuritis and neuralgia is described on the basis of preliminary values for the dynamics of the skin's electrical activity. The spacial-temporal refraction of the electrophysiological reaction of the tissue to mechanical influences and the phenomenon of an isolated ware in the intact skin are examined.
