Wirkung und Wirksamkeit. Grundbegriffe der klinischen Pharmakologie und ihre Bedeutung für den Methodenstreit in der Medizin

Abstract: In 1974 Gerhard Kienle's book "Arzneimittelsicherheit und Gesellschaft (Drug safety and society)" was published, where he pointed out the necessity to make a distinction between the effect and the effectiveness of therapeutical measures. This distinction will be discussed in the following and in addition to Kienle, it well be examined with respect to its three important dimensions of meaning. Additionally, the resulting consequences for the clinical trials an drugs are appreciated.The distinction between effect and effecttiveness is the basis for the clinical pharmacology. It is even an adequate starting point, to gain an understanding for the discussion about methods between the traditional medicine and the special therapeutic fields (like homoeopathy, anthroposophic medicine and physiotherapy). Since this discussion about methods again gains in topicality with respect to the European standardization of the law an drugs, Kienle's approach has to be taken up and dealt with more extensively.
