Komplementdiagnostik bei Tumorpatienten:die Aussagekraft des Euglena-gracilis-Tests |

,Abstract: The significance of the complement system for the tumour defense is discussed controversially. Empiric studies of the last years have shown a different toxicity of sera of healthy patients and patients with tumours for the green algae Euglena gracilis. More detailed examinations suggest a complement-dependent mechanism of action. The aim of a study with a defined patient population (tumours of the urogenital tract) is, to examine a possible participation of the complement system in the tumour defense with the help of a differentiated complement diagnosis. By the inclusion of a further developed, standardized method for the determination of the serum toxicity for Euglena gracilis it is intended to check the diagnostic value of this test system. First results indicate, that the increased serum toxicity for Euglena gracilis is no tumour-specific phenomenon, because it is detectable among others also in persons suffering from rheumatism and during pregnancy. The haemolytic activity of the complement alternative way as a possible equivalent for the cytolytic activity ("euglena test") varies widely, whereas a distinctly increased serum level of the complement regulators factor H and factor I can be proven. The possible dependency of the increased serum toxicity for Euglena gracilis on the so-called acute phase reaction within the scope (also tumour associated) of the inflammatory process is discussed.
