Quality control an peat-therapy |
Journal/Book: Physikalische Medizin Rehabilitationsmedizin Kurortmedizin. 1992; 2/4: 109-112.
Abstract: Objective: It is known that patients are treated by (cheap) water baths with additional chemical peat compounds. Nevertheless, these kinds of black water baths often were denoted as (expensive) mud baths. There is no quantifying method to separate the different forms of baths. A method for quantifying the quality of mud baths should be developed.Design: Samples of mud baths were first preparated by additional water, secondly analysed concerning the viscosity and thirdly put in a moisture analyser. Different standardisation procedures were checked to get valide and reproducable viscosity measurements. Results: Mud is found as a tixotrope substance with structural viscosity. In a field of different samples a ranking scheme for mud quality is suggested. Conclusions: Analysing mud by these methods and using the scheme there is a quantifying method to describe the mud quality in an impressive way for the patients.
