Das westliche Pendant der Yin-Yang-Theorie

Abstract: The author attempts to compare the old teachings of Yin-Yang and their transformation phases (as the basis of Far Eastern medical philosophy) with Western parameters and, in particular, with the Greek philosphy of the same period. He furthermore looks for similarities between the two theories. The most important conclusion drawn is that Yin and Yang are only points of view which is contrary to the usual concepts of them being something material. This is in marked contrast to the present Western, material way of thinking. A very important statement for us Westerners is a sentence almost at the end of the paper: both theories (East and West) have their roots in everyday experience, and thus always have both theoretical and practical aspecits. This synthesis of theory and practice is not always duly respected in the West, although it should be.
