Abstract: 544 stroke patients in their rehabilitation Phase were categorized according to their neurologic deficit. They were tested for hemorheological variables and followed for 2 years. For this analysis, the neurological symptoms were set into relation with the hemorheological parameters. The neurological deficit of these patients correlates with the hemorheological abnormality. It is also associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular re-events during the ensuring 2 years. These findings support the hypothesis that the hemorheological abnormality represents a pathomechanism which induces the increase in risk - a hypothesis, however, that requires further experimental testing.
