Abstract: In a controlled clinical study the efficiency and tolerance of a standardized extract of the greater celandine was tested double-blind against placebo with 30 patients suffering from epigastric distress. In the course of a six-week treatment only the verum-group showed an improvement of the clinical findings. The examination findings for most symptoms moved in direction of disappearance. The differences in effects and tolerance could, for stomach and gall bladder complaints, flatulence, nausea, and bloating, be statistically secured at least an a five percent level for several instants of examination.
