Abstract: Discusses the need for process research in music therapy and presents a process evaluation procedure. This procedure involves analysis of videotaped patient-therapist interactions selected to reflect the patient's central personality characteristics. The method of selecting significant patient-therapist dialogs is described and evaluated via ratings of interactions between a therapist and a 30-yr-old male patient by 20 music therapists, 10 psychotherapists, and 20 lay persons. In addition, recommendations for a system of notation for the musical dialogs are provided. (English abstract)
