Overuse injury and other syndromes in musicians |
Journal/Book: Physician Assistant. 1991; 15: 33-6.
Abstract: Serious musicians are subject to a variety of injuries related to overuse, as well as other medical problems that potentially threaten their careers. Keyboard and string players most often develop neuromuscular problems from excessively strenuous practice and performance. Wind instrumentalists may develop problems from high upper-airway pressures or any medical condition that affects breath control. Vocalists may have problems related to environmental and physiologic factors that affect breath control and sound production. A team approach is recommended for identifying and correcting the causative problem. (8 ref)
