Abstract: Describes attempts to demonstrate the influence of music therapy on the body of the patient. D. Aldridge (1988) mentioned the important factors associated with both biological form and musical form: time, phrasing, pitch, rhythm, and melodic contour. Similar considerations apply for studies of communication. The literature on chronic heart disease and Type A behavior first indicated the importance of these factors. The medium of improvised music offers possibilities for varied communication and has a subtlety beyond that of interview techniques.
