Music therapy in the surgical arena

Abstract: Reviews the literature regarding the role of music in the reduction of anxiety and describes the application of music therapy interventions in the surgical arena. Case studies of 3 women (aged 30-40 yrs) are presented to document the value of music therapy procedures for patients undergoing surgery. The importance of both the music and the therapist in the therapeutic intervention are emphasized. ABSTRACT 2: This article reviews the literature regarding the role of music in the reduction of anxiety and describe the application of music therapy interventions in the surgical arena. Three case studies are presented documenting the value of music therapy procedures for patients undergoing surgery while emphasizing the importance of both the music and the therapist in the therapeutic intervention.
