Abstract: Points to the possibility that when psychotherapy is not "bearing fruit," the psychotherapist has at his/her disposal additional nonverbal means that can bring about a breakthrough. One of these tools is the Japanese technique of finger pressure ( Shiatsu ). Shiatsu developed alongside acupuncture both as a supplementary tool for the professional healer and as a therapeutic technique practiced by family members. Cases of 3 women in their late 20s to mid 40s illustrate the use of Shiatsu. The principles of Shiatsu can apply to many other nonverbal therapies like music, dance, and movement/play therapy in conjunction with psychotherapy.
