Physiological change, communication and the playing of improvised music |
Journal/Book: The Arts in Psychotherapy. 1991; 18: 59-64.
Abstract: What happens when people improvise together? The author believes that music therapy has a direct influence on the body of the patient. Time is seen as an important factor in the cultural construction of disease. Measured quantitative time as chronos is contracted with subjective personal time as kairos. The physiological parameters linking heart rate and attention are seen as useful indicators for assessing changes related to health in the patient, and for investigating changes in the relationship between therapist and patient.
