SageIts Major constituents and its therapeutic activity |
Abstract: In ancient time as well as in the middle ages sage (Salvia) belonged to te most estimated medicinal plants. It became less important since pure substances were isolated from the plant and these were used in remedies with identical indications. Anyhow leaves of S. officinalis and S. triloba are listed in DAB 9 as officinal drugs, in the »Rote Liste« 1990 12 drugs are found which contain extracts of S. officinalis or sage oils as constituents. They are used because of their antiphlogistic, antimicrobial and expectorating activities. Correlations are shown between constituents of the sage leaves and therapeutical activities.
