Positive inotropic effect of a single dose of Scilla-extract shown by radionuclid ventriculography

Abstract: 20 patients suffering from heart failure (NYHA-stages II and III) showing a reduction in global ejection fraction to < 40% were treated with a single dose of 15 g Scilla-extract. The patients were investigated after 90, 180 and 240 minutes with quantitative evaluation of global and regional function measured by radionuclidventriculography. A significant increase of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), peak ejection rate (PER) and peak filling rate (PFR) with a simultaneous decrease of ejection time (ET) were revealed. The PQ-, QRS-and QT-time and the heart rate remained approximately unchanged. Blood pressure values were slightly decreased. Thus, the positive inotropic effect of Scilla-extract after single dosage application of 15 g seems to be assured. No side effects were noticed during the course of the study.
