Abstract: Gelsemium sempervirens (Loganiaceae) is native to the Eastern United States where it has been used by the Indians as a sedative and analgesic for a long time. The Indians were none the less also aware of the plant's toxic properties. In homoeopathic therapy Gelsemium has proved useful as a sedative and a remedy for nervous diseases and has shown to be of great value in the treatment of headaches and neuralgic disorders.
