Abstract: For the therapist, the terminally ill patient and his relatives, criteria are investigated in three dimensions: therapist's behavior, disclosing the diagnosis and psychotherapy for the purpose to improve the communication.1. For the therapist it is necessary to become aware of his unconscious reactions, such as overactivity, withdrawal, substitute act and anger.2. The danger of disclosing the diagnosis and the pros and cons are systematically investigated with the help of the features: personality structure, social contact, age, religiousness and time factor; applied to 56 terminally ill patients who were already informed about their condition. The result was the finding of main criteria which have to be considered in each individual case.3. For the psychotherapeutic support of the Patient possibilities to cope with the condition are shown, for example anticipating mourning work and a special kind of identification.
