Die Angst des Arztes vor dem Tod - die Betreuung des unheilbar Kranken durch den Arzt

Abstract: Today dying and death do no longer belong to the self-evident experiences of life. On the one hand the real death is superseded and denied, an the other hand it is in a strange way presented in the mass media. So, people are deprived of the important knowledge that the death has to be understood as part of the life and that each life must be lived with bearing parting in mind.As regards the physician's anxiety of death It is - corresponding to the basic structures of the personality (according to Riemann) - dealt with the typical unconscious defense reactions of the physicians which may considerably influence the relation to the patient.Attending the dying comprises the so-called work of knowledge, work of relations and the work of mourning. Here it is also dealt with the significance that has explaining the disease to the patient.
