Kupfer in der Rheumatologie ein Rück- und Ausblick |
Abstract: As early as in the antiquity the use of copper for medicament was wellknown. Development of more digestible copper salts led to effective routes of administration in medicine, particularly in rheumatology. The cation analysis of bone biopsies and of whole blood samples indicate a deficiency of copper in chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Untreated patients with rA were found to have elevated urinary copper excretion rate. Copper complexes showed also a potent inhibitory effect on the production of superoxide anions. Copper deficiency is associated with depressed microbiological activity of granulocytes and impaired antibody response.
