Abstract: The Schroth cure - named after its founder Johann Schroth (1798-1856) at Niederlindewiese and since 1949 at Oberstaufen - consists of two components, the cure diet and the cure pack. In the diet carbohydrates are prevailent and it is low in calories (about 500 kcal/day) and comprises vegetable soups, special baker's ware and fresh food. Today the traditional cure wine is often replaced by tea and fruit juices. Depending an the amount of liquid one distinguishes dry days and drinking days. In addition to the diet there are applied moist-cold full packs in which the patient is made to perspire. The major effect of the Schroth cure is an activation of the metabolism, reduction of the weight; detoxication of the organism and removal of residues from the body. The most important indications are diseases of the metabolism; adipositas, diabetes mellitus, gout, metabolic disorders, cardiac and circulatory diseases, hypertension, coronary heart diseases, chronically inflammatory diseases, rheumatic diseases, allergies and diseases of the skin.
