Abstract: Temu Lawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) a native plant in South-east Asia, has been used for centuries as a herbal remedy. Its therapeutic values lies in the complexity of its pharmacological properties. Of special interest are currently the choleretic and stimulative digestive properties, as well as the antiinflammatory and antibacterial/-fungal activities of the plant. Recent publications indicate further relevant pharmacological effects (selective anti-thromboxane A2-activity, hypocholesterinemic effect).
