Perioperative Changes of the Immune System Following Aortal Vascular Surgery

Abstract: The effect of aortal vascular surgery an the immune system ought to be shown in this study. Therefore the constellation of the immunologic cells of 20 patients were controlled during the perioperative period by continuous cell flowmeter (FACS). The qualitative and quantitative estimation of circulating immune complexes (CIC) was executed by radial immune diffusion (RID).The findings showed a postoperative immunosuppression up to the third postoperative day. A humoral or cellular defence reaction between the third and the seventh postoperative day followed from the results. This reaction may be a return to the preoperative immune constellation of atherosclerosis or an immune reaction against the implantated prosthesis or the transfusion of blood.
