Complementary practitioners in a Midlands locality

Abstract: This paper reports the results of in-depth interviews with 34 complementary practitioners. It discusses four main issues: the motivation of the practitioners and their reasons for entering complementary medine; the demand for their services and how they generate and control that demand, their networks and co-operation with other complementary and conventionally trained practitioners; and the patient-practitioner relationship.No attempt is made to draw detailed statistical information from these interviews, but rather to unravel the underlying themes from these four areas which in itself may lead to further detailed research.
