The Importance of Enzyme Therapy with Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases |
Journal/Book: Natur- und Ganzheitsmedizin Wissenschaft und Praxis. 1991; Supplement 1/91: 23-27.
Abstract: Patients suffering from degenerative or inflammatory rheumatic diseases have been greatly helped for years with the treatment of orally applied enzymes (Mulsal®, Wobenzym®). With rheumatic arthritis - the classical autoaggressive disease - enzymes are prescribed in high dosages. But their effects set in with a delay; the duration of the therapy is four to six months. Randomized studies have proven the efficiency. Arthrosis, spondylarthrosis, and extra-articular rheumatism react - sometimes with a delay - to enzyme therapy. It is mainly the symptoms of the inflammation and, above all, the tenacious arthrotic pains at night that are alleviated. An application during the pain-free interval is of no use. With extra-articular rheumatism it is recommendable to apply enzyme therapy in combination with physical therapy -even if the disease has so far proven resistent to therapy. With enzyme therapy side effects are rare even with high dosages. Allergic reactions appear more often; however, wellformed stool and increased flatulence are fully reversible.
