Abstract: Especially for the physician of general medicine the use of officinal plants in his practice is an important extension and particularly an enlargement of his therapeutical possibilities.However, the gods have paved the way to the phytotherapy with a lot of work and with sweat. In the last years the modern pharmacognosy has with the investigation of the constituents of our long-approved officinal plants scientifically established what once belonged to the so-called popular medicine and has been laughed at smirkingly by many people.But what we as physicians of general medicine ask for are standardized plant preparations.
