Music therapy treatment in simple language delay. TITLE, ORIGINAL: Trattamento musicoterapico nel ritardo semplice di linguaggio.

Abstract: The effectiveness of music therapy in speech therapy is demonstrated in a longitudinal observation, conducted in 1987-88, of speech therapy progress by Italian children diagnosed with simple language delay and subjected to traditional speech therapy techniques vs. a combination of traditional speech therapy and music therapy. It was found that patients in the combined approach responded more quickly to the treatment and acquired correct phonological competence in a shorter time. Explanations for why music therapy produces positive speech therapy results are considered.
