Psychoanalytische Betrachtungen zur musikalischen Kreativitat. / Psychoanalytic reflections on musical creativity

Abstract: Uses findings of research into the personality traits of artistically creative individuals in general to discuss the process of musical creativity and musically creative individuals. Earlier theories linking creativity with psychopathologies are no longer considered relevant. Rather than a simple regression, the creative process involves a loosening of the ego structure that allows permutations and recombinations of its various components in a sort of "regressive self-passage." Modern theories of narcissism are relevant to a valid conceptualization of musical creativity, if they are combined with the notion of object relations. Biographical vignettes from the lives of famous composers illustrate the musical creativity theme. (English abstract)
