Music psychotherapy with schizophrene

Abstract: Presenting a model for the subject Hanne-Mette Kortegaard discusses the specified knowledge and therapeutic abilities necessary. In her model Hanne-Mette offers the concept of newly created symbols. These may occur during musical improvisation and should be recognized on level with transference and countertransference. Further she considers music a real (rather than a symbolic) expression for the schizophrene, and she shows how musical dialogue and improvisation may serve a progressive counteridentification on the part of the patient.
