The function of aesthetic stimuli in the therapeutic process.

Journal/Book: Music therapy in the treatment of adults with mental disorders: Theoretical bases and clinical interventions. 1990; New York. Schirmer. 70-84. Bibliog..

Abstract: The use of speculative aesthetics--the belief in the intrinsic value of the arts--is prominent in the literature of music therapy. An alternative view focuses on stimulative properties and how they relate to psychobiological processes. Various theories of perception, cognition, and affect are described, along with theories of Leonard B. Meyer, Daniel E. Berlyne, and Hans Kreitler that posit intrinsic characteristics of musicand emotion. (Pope, Betty)
