A phenomenology of music therapy with the terminally ill |
Journal/Book: School of Education, Health, Nursing, and Arts Professions. 1990; New York University. viii, 120 leaves.
Abstract: A study of ten music therapy sessions with terminally ill patients conducted by the author at Cabrini Hospice in New York City, based on verbatim transcripts, therapist's process notes, and audio tapes of each session. The complexity of the therapeutic event is acknowledged and its wholeness and integrity maintained in the research process, and using a five-step phenomenological analysis, the essences of the therapy experience emerge for synthesis and classification.
