The effects of behavioral music therapy techniques on severely emotionally handicapped and emotionally handicapped children. |
Abstract: Five case studies of music therapy across more than 20 sessions with emotionally disturbed children are reported with graphed data to analyze results. Included are music therapy treatment plans to increase positive statements for self-esteem, to decrease fidgeting in the classroom, to teach following directions and respect for others in the room, and to decrease off-task behavior and inappropriate, repetitive questions. Results show music therapy activities and contingencies to be effective techniques for shaping the above behaviors in the desired direction.
