[Voice breaking in young singers]

Abstract: The adolescent's phonatory apparatus undergoes profound modifications during the period of voice breaking: lowering and growth of the larynx, change of vocal type. Voice-breaking occurs in two phases with the singing voice being modified essentially during the second phase, with a time lapse in relation to the speaking voice. Although stopping singing appears to be a reasonable attitude, it can not always be obtained, and therefore, the young singer can be helped through this period of change by developing a vocal technique adapted to this period.
