Abstract: Examines possible psychological explanations for some common forms of religious experience. Experiences reviewed include conversion, awareness of a sacred presence in nature, music, mystical experience, and experiences of God and others. The effects of religious experience in terms of health, subjective well-being, and a sense of inner meaning are considered.
