Time and Rhythm in Physiology and Pathology |
Journal/Book: Natur- und Ganzheitsmedizin Wissenschaft und Praxis. 1990; 3/12: 364-370.
Abstract: All normal processes of life take place with time-related rhythmical oscillations. This has been known for a long time in empiric therapeutics and in anthroposophist medicine, but it has only been researched for a couple of decades in chronobiology. The different physiological rhythms oscillate in the range between thousands of seconds and several years. Their synchronisation is the precondition for physical and psychological health. A desynchronisation of the rhythms can be found with many chronic and acute diseases. The morbidity rate varies over the day as well as over the year. The knowledge of the rhythmical relatedness of physiological processes allows an improvement of prophylaxis and therapy.
