Zur Blutdruckwirkung natriumhaltiger Heilwässer

Abstract: When evaluating the effects of sodic mineral water on blood pressure it has to be taken in" to account that mineral water cures are normally limited in time and that they can cause adaptive changes in the balance of water and electrolytes. Longitudinal studies of cures in case of hypertensive persons have shown that additional mineral water cures with sodic mineral waters have not affected the decrease of the blood pressure due to the cure. Unexpectedly, it could be observed that healthy persons and hypertensives showed decreases of blood pressure when isolated mineral water cures were carried out at home. The same results were observed during animal experiments. It is assumed that adaptive changes in the balance of water and electrolytes as well as differences in action between sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate are the mechanisms, especially as recent investigations have shown different blood pressure effects of different sodium salts.
