Pathophysiology of Aging

Abstract: Aging is a complicated adaptation process of the whole organism an a molecular; cellular; and systemic basis. At which stage such a change is pathological can only really be judged an the basis of a comparison between the old and the young organism of the same person. Empirically it has been proven that morphological changes show particular correlations to the process of aging. Thus for example the weight of the brain and of the heart becomes less in old age. The cells show qualitative and quantitative changes. A reduction of the number of cells and of mitochondria and changes in the CNS occur. An overall definition of the pathological processes of aging is impossible an account of the complexity of the processes.
