Diagnostics of Coping with Stress: Strategies for Coping with Everyday Stress |
Journal/Book: Natur- und Ganzheitsmedizin Wissenschaft und Praxis. 1990; 3/8: 241-245.
Abstract: There are various standardized methods (questionnaires) for diagnosing strategies with which a person copes with stresses. The present study introduces a new one of these methods of stress diagnosis. It is based an selfsurveillance of real behaviour, that means that the patient notes down existing situations in which stress occurs and his subsequent behaviour. With the help of confirmation analysis, it is evaluated to what degree a person uses efficient strategies of coping with stress. An empirical study has shown that test persons suffering from depression show much higher tendencies of evasion and avoidance to easily controllable stresses than non-depressed persons. Psychologically healthy people could follow the postulated cluster of rules for efficient coping with stress much more regularly. Analogously there was a connection in tendency for anxiety.
