Abstract: Clinic of Physical Medicine Comenius' University Bratislava 60 hypertensives (30 grade I and 30 grade II WHO) were followed-up with CO2 balneotherapy in spa Sliac and Dudince in Czechoslovakia. Mean age of the sample was 47 2 yrs and 46 5 of 30 controls. After one bath mean BP of I. stage decreased of 0 37 vs. 0 48 kPa in systolic and diastolic vls. II. stage of 0 52 vs. 0 57 kPa. After series of baths (10-12) I. stage of 1 27 vs. 0 94; II. stage of 1 34 vs. 1 38. Significant decrease of heart rate after series of baths were present. Load tests before and after reched from 105 8 to 117 in I. stage patients and from 107 0 to 122 9 Watt. Systolic time intervals showed to increase of PEI with noch change in LVET and correspondigly slight increase of PEP/LVET alter balneotherapy in spas. Ejection fraction increased from 62 5 to 65 8 % after balneotherapy measured with echocardiography. Index BPsys/ ESVI from 3 2 to 4 4 mmHg/ml/m2 Holter ECG and BP monitorings showed to significant decrease of both supraventricular and ventricular ectopic activity significant percentual reduction of abnormal blood pressure readings in diastolic blood pressure with monitorings. Longterm follow-up of these patients alter yr showed the necessity of drug treatment of hypertensive patients. CO2 balneotherapy in spa is the useful nonpharmacologic treatment of hypertensive patients stages I II WHO. Long-term effects of these cannot be confirmed and additory medical hypotensive treatment has to be used with serial examinations after return from the spa to their common life conditions. hl
