The use of computers to analyze performance motions of musicians. Special Issue: Microcomputers in psychomusicology research |
Journal/Book: Psychomusicology. 1989; 8: 135-141.
Abstract: Explores the efficacy of using computerized biomechanical motion analysis to describe musicians' movement patterns during music performance. Descriptions of studies (e.g., O. Ortmann, (1929) 1962) of pianists and cellists are presented. The instrumentation and design of a biomechanical study (V. H. McArthur, 1988) of skilled pianists is also described. Research topics relating to pedagogical and therapeutic concerns for injured musicians are suggested.
