Music therapy assessment of emotionally disturbed children |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1989; 16: 179-192.
Abstract: Describes the design of a Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Emotionally Disturbed Children (MTAT), which was used in clinical work conducted with 18 inpatient and 6 outpatient Ss (aged 3-12 yrs). The instrument categories include natural response choice, musical preference, musical responsiveness, verbal associations, nonverbal reactions, and client/therapist interaction. Case studies of an 11-yr-old girl diagnosed as borderline, and an 8-yr-old girl diagnosed with mixed specific development disorder illustrate the nature and course of long- and short-term music therapy assessment using the MTAT.
