Music therapy in the treatment of the hearing-impaired. National Association for Music Therapy California Symposium on Clinical Practices (1987, Costa Mesa, California) |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy Perspectives. 1989; 6: 61-70.
Abstract: Presents classifications of hearing loss and their effect on clients' interaction with the environment and discusses the clinical practice of music therapy (MT) with hearing-impaired (HI) clients. A 6-point music therapy procedure in auditory training is described, along with the use of music in speech and language development. Music therapists working with HI clients should be familiar with certain methods of communication (e.g., American sign language, cued speech). Assessments used in music therapy clinical practice with HI clients are appended. (0 ref)
