Research strategies in a hospital setting: the development of appropriate methods

Abstract: Designing appropriatc rcsearch methods is seen as a developmental process. Three related arcas of clinical research arc proposed; physiological experimentation, theoretical development and clinical outcomes. The dialogue between clinicians in a hospital setting, where the criteria for the asscssmcnt of clinical criteria for rcscarch arc negotiated, is seen as beneficial in promoting understanding between practitioners. Research also stimulates the academic life of the dcpartment.
